Paint & Distressing Materials
Before | After
My tried and true nab at our local thrift shop “Half Off Wednesday” weekly stops, I typically will leave with a few old frames. I chuck them in my picture frame tote and wait for a perfect spray paint day, of which Mother Nature blessed our Minnesota souls with this past weekend. Although not pictured, I used my usual process for upcycling. Once I have frames cleaned and de-hardware’d, I break out the rattle cans. I rough up the edges and wood grains, following my staining and buffing.
I was excited to try inserting the metal sheeting I found at our local hardware store as a magnet board.
As noted on the box, a variety of sizes and finishes are available.
With a careful and steady hand, I attacked the sheeting to cut to size. Yeah for “Junk Hunk” to pitch in to help!
To secure the tin inside the frame from the back, “Junk Hunk” used a silicon caulk, running a bead around the edge.
We allowed the caulk to cure overnight.
The options are endless for fun magnets to add to these vintage-inspired lovelies. Or, just fill them with your Post-Its or receipts. Check out more ideas on my Pinterest board.
