Prior to the holiday break at school, a fellow colleague shared with me what I know will be a life-changer both personally and professionally. I really haven’t quit thinking about our conversation since. It is simply identifying your “why.” She went on to suggest I look up Simon Sinek. He is the mastermind behind the simple notion of inspiring everyone to find their why. Simon has authored several books, among many other tools and resources. “Start with Why” is definitely one of my first reads of 2017. As my colleague and I discussed how we could use Sinek’s work within our curriculum at school, my Junk By Jenny light bulb was shining even brighter. My “why” has always been there, but now more apparent than ever.
Sinek’s core principle is what he has named the “golden circle,” comprised of what, how, and why. I encourage you to visit Simon Sinek’s site to learn more about his simple, yet inspiring message.
I know what I do. I look for junk and sell junk. I know how I do what I do. With my watchful eye and creative mind, I bring new life to the old and forgotten, with a variety of upcycling techniques. But why? I’ve always said, the junk is fun…but the people and places are better.
Junk By Jenny has allowed me to share my passion for junk with others. As I bid farewell to 2016, this is a tribute to the many fabulous people and places I encountered along the way this year. The following faces and places answer the question, “Why do you do what you do, Junk By Jenny?”
