Coming soon to a field near you is the spring planting season. Farmers far and wide will be going like gang-busters to work in the 2017 crop. This little slice of Mother Nature is where I called home as a kid. With the dairy barn now vacant of bovines, it is instead filled with my treasures.
Tonight wasn’t unlike any other night. Junk Hunk and I backed up the trailer to the barn, as we delivered yet another round of inventory to be stored. The farmer (my dad) and the mini-farmer (my son) ripped around the farm, while my mom and Claire worked in the garden. Diet Coke and Hamm’s beer were involved, while the children begged for ice cream. It truly was like we hit the repeat button on our mid-week visit.
However, there was a Junk By Jenny first. I recently scored a set of movie theater seats from the most lovely young family. I’ve never had movie theater seats and am excited about their addition. With their clumsy and awkward demeanor, we set them aside while we unloaded the trailer. I couldn’t help but pause and smile with this view. The chairs were lined up as though they were awaiting to be filled with patrons. Tonight’s feature show? …The spring planting season. The soil had been worked up, ready to welcome the anticipated 2017 seed, not unlike the preview at a movie.
It seemed only fitting that I call the family behind the barn for a quirky photo shoot. The patrons arrived, after some coaxing.
As if they were settling in for a well-anticipated movie, my movie-go’ers were taking in the ambiance of the show. Instead of the smell of buttery popcorn, they experienced the smell of freshly worked up soil , hours away from being planted. Mother Nature supplemented the feature film with a brilliant evening sky.
Enjoy the show.
