Yesterday, I was the kid at the candy store. I went to Junk Bonanza. I’ve been a customer before and certainly will be for years to come. However, yesterday’s shopping experience was different. I was “shopping” for the best secrets as a future vendor.
I picked the brains of many vendors, asking about pricing, inventory, staging, and more. I picked up some new junking slang. My favorite new junking word is: littles. In other words, the little “filler” stuff used in staging. I took many photos, not so much of the junk, but rather the “vintage walls” many had to make their space more store-like. I was inspired to finally take the plunge and ordered a Square, allowing me the capability to take plastic payment. I had my biggest little fans with me (my kiddos), but felt lucky Grandma was with as well so I could absorb it all. I was sure to find myself a refreshment as I meandered from booth to booth.
I also didn’t leave empty handed, as I picked up some new junk merch.
I am most excited to try out the little goodie in this bag. However, I need to wait for my inventory specialist (aka hubby) to arrive home with more inventory. Stay tuned for my upcoming “Upcycle of the Week” to showcase something this junker has never tried.
As I was consolidating all of the mental notes I took from my day at Junk Bonanza, I really can simplify the advice shared by other vendors into 3 things: bring your husband to haul stuff, drink lots of coffee, and be yourself. (check, check, check – I’m covered).
Although I would consider Junk Bonanza to be the “big leagues” in the junking world, I’m certain I’m not too “out of my league.” I feel so lucky to be part of the 2016 Minneapolis Junk Bonanza as a vendor.
