Luke Bryan’s popular song seems to parallel with my husband’s passions more than most songs. What pulls at this momma’s heart strings is the how Ethan jumps at the chance to join dad on the huntin’ and fishin’ trips.
For the longest time, I have been gently asking to add a camper to our trailer lot that is accumulating at our house. Ok, I should back up….the asking really has turned into hounding. Luckily, the fish house industry has transformed the standard little ice shanties into dual purpose “homes away from home.” Ice Castle Fish Houses (among many other brands) specializes in creating family-friendly options for people who wish to ice fish and camp, providing a fun and functional option around the calendar year. Check out their website here to learn more about the many options Ice Castle has.
So, last week, I finally had Jon convinced it was time for the Maras family to buy one.
Look at how happy Junk Hunk is in his new ice fishing haven. The aesthetics appeal to every outdoorsmen, with the lovely-smelling cedar, wood floor, leather couch, and camo accents. He assures me I’ll have all of the fresh fish I can handle this winter with the “walters” (aka walleye) and perch he and Ethan reel up through those holes.
The kids, of course, have been over the moon excited. We’ve slept in our new toy for multiple nights in our driveway. We are quite adventurous, right? We did a little trial run at a campground near Morris and have several more little camping excursions booked for the summer. In July, we’ll be doing a campin’ and junkin’ combo at Market on the Farm, a new junking event near Willmar, Minnesota. I am looking forward to my vendorship there and having my family and Ice Castle right on site.
The Maras family be campin’ and junkin’ in the Castle before it ever sees it’s first frozen lake.
So, here’s to Huntin’ & Fishin’ and Campin’ & Junkin’.
