Each week, I will share an upcylce project. I will include tips, suggestions, and materials used. It is my hope you are inspired to try some of the projects featured weekly. All of my work showcased here will be at one of my sales and might just end up finding it’s way into your home.
These 3 Amigos were part of a really fun pick in Madison, Minnesota. The owner said they were old Sunday school chairs, but unsure of the church they came from. I couldn’t resist and they came home with me. They would be the perfect addition to any playroom and have so much more life in them.
Sander & Sand Paper
Cleaning Solution, Scrub Brush & Bucket
Ace Paint | Deep Sea Dive, Blue Energy, Sense of Wonder
These little buggers needed some elbow grease before the fun could begin.
Because of the age of the chairs & the flakey paint, I was sure to vacuum up debris to ensure our patio was free of any lead-based paint.
Once the sanding was complete, the chairs needed some scrubbing. I like to do that in the sun for quick drying. Even in the warm sun, I allowed at least 24 hours of additionnal drying to time.
Now for the fun. COLOR. I went with a bold color combo. I purchased the paint at our local Ace Hardware store during one of their mega paint sales. I liked the color trio so well, I plan on using the same colors in my high school classroom for fall. Check back for details on that as the summer concludes.
Painting this trio was so much fun. Each of the colors covered nicely with 2 coats, with the exception of the Deep Sea Dive, which needed 3.
I’m often asked 3 common questions regarding my junking:
- When do you have time?
- Where do you pick?
- Where in the world do you store all of your inventory?
In this post, I’ll respond to #1. Check back for answers to #2 & #3 in upcoming posts.
“Jenny, when do you ever find time for your junking? You are a young mom and busy teacher.” The answer is simple: I involve my family. Gosh, sometimes the dog is even involved. As shown below, I typically set up my painting table right in the sandbox, when the kiddos are playing. The shade is perfect and our conversations are priceless.
These 3 little friends are complete. Do you want to take these amigos home? Come to the Prairie Pioneer Days on Saturday, July 11 and look for Junk By Jenny at East Side Park.
And the Story Continues…
Budding little junker, Mila (and momma Hilary) were my first customer’s at Prairie Pioneer Days. Mila is definitely a shopper, with her many “Ooohs and Ahhhs.” It is exciting to know these chairs will have many days of tea parties ahead of them,
